Endevco provides products for flight test, inertial measurement and pressure profiling, including flutter testing, engine testing and static and dynamic vibration testing. Endevco’s complete range of extreme environment accelerometers, microphones, airborne amplifiers and pressure transducers are used during ground, in-flight and on-board monitoring of aircraft engines. They play a significant role as new engines are developed, certified and placed into production.

For aerospace testing, typical performance requirements are high sensitivity, wide-band frequency response and wide dynamic range. Endevco sensors are used in applications such as ground vibration testing, ground vibration tests, airplane flutter tests, static and dynamic vibration testing, and airplane engine testing.

Endevco’s accelerometers has set the industry standard for safety testing in anthropomorphic test dummies, on- vehicle, barrier and sled testing. These premier transducers created the original specifications for the National Highway Traffic Association (NHTSA) and other US agencies. Continuing its technical leadership, Endevco crash sensors meet and exceed Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) specifications J211 and J2570. Further, these high-reliability sensors are used for vehicle crash and passenger safety tests in accordance with the European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNCAP), US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and related global legislative and safety testing regulations.

Endevco accelerometers are used in vehicle dynamic testing of engines, exhaust systems, components and suspension systems due to their micro-miniature size, high temperature performance and rugged construction.   • Seismic Measurements: As naturally occurring or induced seismic applications are typically characterized as motion or low frequency vibration, they usually require a specialized low noise, high resolution accelerometer. When selecting which accelerometer best meets your needs, it is a good idea to keep in mind that the largest g level recorded by an earthquake was 3 g’s in the South Island of New Zealand. Consequently, if you are unsure as to what you expect to record, it might be prudent to choose a ±5 g accelerometer like the Model 87-1.
  • Scale Model Modal Testing: Modal testing is performed upon scale models in order to understand their vibration characteristics. To do this, a shaker excites the structure with a known frequency and amplitude while accelerometers mounted at various places on the structure collect data. The stud mounted F3/Z602WA and F10/Z820WA shakers each have a frequency range of 5 to 2000 HZ but their underlying technologies differ. The former is an electromagnetic device and the latter a reaction type
  • Structural Monitoring: Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) seeks to avoid high cost of repairs and injuries to humans and other animals by identifying and monitoring damaging events as they occur. Depending on the structure, this may require special accelerometers. Examples include: surviving at high temperatures and radiation exposure (7703A), hermetic sealing against contaminants while maintaining TEDS compliance (41A19-5), or measurement in 3 axis (45A).

  • Military Vehicles:  Military vehicles experience some of the harshest testing imaginable. They are shot at, blown up, crashed and driven through all types of road and off-road conditions. The 7280A accelerometer is the unit of choice for explosive tests as these sensors have a range of 20K to 60K g’s and the highest frequency response. When vehicles are crashed for passenger safety testing, the use of the 7264H is advised as this accelerometer is damped, has a broad frequency response and is SAE J211/J2570 compliant.
  • Heavy Machines:  Heavy machines encompass mobile heavy construction vehicles that are used for moving earth, tearing down buildings and erecting new structures.  As g forces operating on these vehicles often must be examined in 3 axis, the triaxial 65HTLPF accelerometer should be your first choice considering its small size makes it convenient to install and its titanium housing gives excellent protection against corrosion. For those higher temperature applications (350˚F to 900˚F), choose the triaxial 2280 accelerometer. Besides operating at elevated temperature, this unit requires no power.
  • Shipping: High levels of ship vibration are to be avoided at all costs as they cause material fatigue and discomfort to crews and passengers. Sources of machine vibration include, but are not limited to, diesel generators, gearboxes, main engines, propellers, propulsion systems and pumps. The radiation-hardened 7704A PE accelerometer is reserved for the more exotic nuclear-powered submarines, aircraft carriers and icebreakers while the all-purpose, low profile 7259B miniature IEPE accelerometer can handle a wide range of non-nuclear shipboard vibration measurements. Both of these sensors are compatible with the 2775B signal conditioner.

Endevco accelerometers are the industry standard for high g shock measurement. These accelerometers are small, lightweight, easy to install and can take shocks up to 200,000g’s.

Endevco’s piezoresistive shock accelerometers are essential in measuring accurate Shock Response Spectrum. As a result, they are frequently specified for applications involving weapons testing, explosions and missile penetration studies.


  • High Shock Data Recorders: Data recorders for military weapons testing typically require accelerometers with both high g ranges and high sampling rates. The sensors must be easily mounted in a small package and integrated with the recording device.
  • Pyroshock Testing: There are several different pyroshock standards but a common one derived from MIL-STD-810G, Method 517 for near-field pyroshock has frequencies greater than 10,000 Hz and peak amplitudes greater than 10,000 G’s.
  • Blast Testing: Miniature pressure sensors are used for studies of structural loading by shock waves resulting from blast explosions. The model 8511A piezoresistive pressure transducer has a 3/8-inch mounting thread and is available in ranges from 5000 to 20 000 psig.
