Paper Presentation by Stephen Labram

An Automatic Sampling Methodology to Determine Contractual Particle Size Distribution in Rapid Load Out Stations

Stephen Labram will be presenting a paper on the sampling system designed and supplied by Thermo Fisher Scientific for the Kalagadi Rail Link project in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The project required that Sintered Manganese be sampled as it was loaded by conveyor into a train load out station at 2500 tonnes per hour. The sampling required that an instantaneous particle size distribution was measured by the sampling system to ensure that action could be taken by the system operators if the train was at risk of being loaded out of contractual specifications. Stephen joined Ramsey South Africa in 1980 and started a project at Richards bay coal terminal commissioning large sampling systems. He later started the local sampling business in South Africa for Ramsey which went on to become Thermo Fisher Scientific, becoming Managing Director from 1998 until 2016.
